How Protranz is using innovative remote control technology in Christchurch’s iconic Cathedral.

Following Christchurch’s devastating earthquake sequences in 2010-2011, diversified earthmoving and related services provider Protranz developed innovative remote-control technology for its Komatsu diggers. This allowed them to safely carry out critical demolition works in extremely hazardous locations. Now Protranz’s remote control technology is being used on a Komatsu PC138 digger to safely remove rubble and other material inside the beautiful and historic Christchurch Cathedral — so badly damaged in the earthquakes it was threatened with demolition — as part of a $NZ150 million-plus reinstatement project.
